In Loving Memory of Philippa Nigg
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philippa, a founding pillar of Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC) and a fabulous member of our Board of Directors.
As the mother of our founder Andrea (Ross) Maffett, Philippa was woven into the very fabric of this organization from its inception. For over 20 years, she served as a steady source of strength, wisdom, and unwavering belief in our mission.
A Legacy of Service and Foundation
In our early days, Philippa was instrumental in establishing JWOC’s presence in the United States. From managing our first donation platforms to offering her own home as a base for our international growth, she ensured that the foundation of our work was solid.
Beyond her administrative brilliance as Board Secretary, Philippa was a world-class ambassador. She hosted numerous fundraising tours and events, always opening her doors with the kind of warmth that made every visitor and staff member feel like family.
An Extraordinary Commitment
A Champion for Education
She personally funded multiple scholarships and leveraged her influence with the Soroptimist group to sponsor 6 additional female scholars, forever changing the trajectory of their lives.
Unwavering Generosity
For two decades, Philippa committed at least $6,000 annually to our work—a testament to her deep-rooted belief in the power of community.
Strategic Wisdom
As a board member and advisor, she was a guardian of our history and values, providing the professional guidance and technical support that kept JWOC moving forward through every challenge.
