The Education-First Permanent Endowment Fund
At Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC), our mission is to partner with low-income Cambodian youth to help them realize their full potential in education, employment, and community engagement. While annual donations keep our daily operations running, the JWOC Education-First Permanent Endowment Fund is designed to secure our mission in perpetuity.
Why Support the Endowment?
The endowment provides a sustainable, long-term income stream that allows JWOC to maintain its vital programs through economic uncertainties and fund new, innovative initiatives.
- Long-Term Impact: Your gift is invested and protected; only the earnings are used to support our programs and operations.
- Future Stability: The fund ensures JWOC’s stability and growth for generations of Cambodian students to come.
- Governance: The JWOC Board of Directors has adopted an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) that outlines our investment principles, risk tolarance, return objectives, and spending policy.

Donation of Securities
Maximize Your Impact, Minimize Your Taxes: Donate Securities
Consider making a gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to JWOC to support our mission. By donating appreciated securities held for more than one year, you can potentially eliminate capital gains tax on the increase in value and receive a fair market value deduction for your gift, allowing you to give more than if you sold the stock and donated the cash. Contact your tax advisor for what works best for your situation.
Avoid Capital Gains Tax
Avoid paying tax on the appreciation of securities held over a year.
Double Tax Savings
Deduct the full fair market value (FMV) of the security on your tax return.
Increased Capacity
Donors can often afford to give more compared to selling the stock and donating the proceeds.

Qualified Charitable Distributions
For our supporters aged 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.
By directing your QCD to Journeys Within Our Community, you support our mission while reducing your taxable income.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?
A QCD allows individuals over 70½ to transfer up to $111,000 (tax year 2026) directly from their IRA to a qualified charity, without including the distribution in their taxable income. This can be a smart way to give while reducing the impact of required minimum distributions (RMDs) and lowering your overall tax liability. Please refer to IRS guidelines for further information.
Key Benefits of a QCD:
- Lower Your Taxable Income: The amount you donate through a QCD is not included in your taxable income.
- Satisfy Your RMD Requirement: If you are required to take minimum distributions from your IRA, a QCD can fulfill this obligation without increasing your tax bill.
- No Need for Itemizing: You don’t need to itemize your deductions to take advantage of the QCD benefit.
- Make a Meaningful Impact: Your contribution will support our mission and the critical work we are doing.
Legacy Giving
By including JWOC in your estate plan, you ensure that our mission continues for generations to come. A gift in your will is a simple, yet powerful way to make your commitment known.
